Room Darkening Solutions by 605 Blinds

Nurseries, night shift sleepers, early summer sunrises and movie nights. Here's how we make a room dark, and keep it that way.

Bedrooms & Media Rooms

A dark room, on your schedule

Blackout fabric is the starting point. Stopping the light around the edges is what makes a room truly dark.

A shade covers the glass, but light still finds its way around the sides, over the top and under the bottom. That's the glowing outline you see around a bedroom shade at sunrise in June.

Our room darkening solutions start with the right fabric and then close those gaps, so you can sleep in, put the baby down for a nap, or watch a movie in the middle of the afternoon.

Side & Bottom Channels

Aluminum channels stop light from leaking around the edges and bottom of the shade. Paired with blackout fabric, they also add some insulation at the window.

Love the look of a Natural Woven Shade in the bedroom? Add a room darkening Fixed Liner to the back of the shade. It moves with the shade, so you keep the natural texture on the room side and get a darker room.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a blackout shade make my room completely dark?

Blackout fabric stops the light coming through the shade, but light can still get in around the edges. Side & Bottom Channels close those gaps, and LightGuard 360 adds a top housing too. That's the strongest blackout setup we offer in a Roller Shade, and the one we recommend for bedrooms and media rooms.

What's the difference between room darkening and blackout?

Room darkening fabric blocks most of the light. Blackout fabric blocks the light coming through the shade completely. With either one, the light around the edges is what you'll notice, which is why we recommend channels for bedrooms.

Do blackout shades help with heat too?

Side & Bottom Channels add some insulation when they're paired with blackout fabric, and blackout Honeycomb Shades give you a dark room and insulating cells in one shade.

Can I get something on the windows while I wait for my order?

Yes. If you need privacy right away, tell us when you book your consultation. We'll install free temporary shades on every window you're ordering new window coverings for, so you're covered until the custom order is installed.

Is the in-home consultation really free?

Yes. A Design Specialist brings samples to your home, measures your windows, and gives you a detailed quote before leaving. There's no charge for the visit, and you'll know exactly what your project costs before you decide.
