Hot & Cold Window Solutions by 605 Blinds
If a room bakes every afternoon or stays cold all winter, look at the windows. Here's how we help keep the heat and cold at the glass.
Energy Efficiency
Keep the heat & cold at the glass
Glass lets summer heat and winter cold push into your home, and your furnace and air conditioner work harder to keep up.
South Dakota gives us hot summers and long, cold winters, and the windows feel both. The right window treatment adds a barrier between the glass and the room, so the space is more comfortable and your heating and cooling don't have to work as hard.
Honeycomb Shades are our first choice for this, and there are a few other good ways to help, inside and out.
Honeycomb Shades
Our first choice for hot & cold windows
Honeycomb Shades hold a layer of air in their cells, right against the glass. That layer helps keep a room cooler in summer and warmer in winter, and it comes in light filtering and blackout fabrics, Top Down / Bottom Up, and shapes for arches, angles and skylights.

Sliding Doors
Vertical Honeycomb Shades
A sliding glass door is the biggest piece of glass in most rooms, and it lets in a lot of heat and cold. Vertical Honeycomb Shades bring that same insulation to the door, and they open side to side so you can still walk out to the patio.

Roller Shades
Blackout with channels
On a Roller Shade, aluminum Side & Bottom Channels block the light at the edges, and paired with blackout fabric they add some insulation too. It's a good combination for a bedroom that gets too hot in the evening sun.

Wood & Faux Wood Blinds
Wood blinds, tilted closed
Our Wood Blinds add warmth, texture and energy efficiency to a room. Tilt the slats closed on a hot afternoon and they keep a lot of the sun off the floor and furniture.

Outdoors
Exterior Patio Shades
On a sunny patio, Exterior Patio Shades block the sun before it reaches your outdoor space and the doors and windows behind it. They reduce the wind and keep the bugs out, too.

Straight Answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Do Honeycomb Shades really help with heating and cooling?
They help, most of all on windows that let a lot of heat or cold into a room. The cells hold a layer of air between the glass and the room, so less heat moves through the window. How much you save depends on your windows and how you use the shades, but the difference in comfort near the window is something you can feel.
What's the best option for a cold sliding glass door?
Vertical Honeycomb Shades. They open side to side like the door, and when they're closed they bring the same insulation as the Honeycomb Shades on your windows.
Should my shades be open or closed to save energy?
Close them on hot afternoons to keep the sun's heat out, and close them on cold nights to hold the warmth in. On sunny winter days, open the shades on the sunny side and let the sun help warm the room.
Is the in-home consultation really free?
Yes. A Design Specialist brings samples to your home, measures your windows, and gives you a detailed quote before leaving. There's no charge for the visit, and you'll know exactly what your project costs before you decide.
